I suspect this may be a buffer ann intended either to:
1. cushion the short-term blow of perhaps not managing to reach agreement with Tesla on worthwhile terms; or
2. bargain a little harder with Tesla by making clear that there is a lucrative spot/auction market available to CXO and they need to meet us closer to our position to do a deal.
Longer term it may not matter either way, although I would speculate that it is [2].
