Could be a bit of "churning" going on as well to drive the price down.
I'd guess also that some brokers shorting may well conceal their identity by using Commsec for example.
All shorters will tell you they are "taking a bet" on the share price falling. Some funds however are big enough to destroy a company.
If they are so sure the price will fall, they should set up a book with Ladbrokes or Unibet etc. I'm sure the Bookies would accommodate them. Then ban the brokers from trading in that particular stock, and see how it goes!!!!
Let the stock trade on its merits.
