Contact Energy Limited - Buyback of Retail Fixed Rate Bonds (CEN010)

Over the coming months, Contact Energy Limited intends to buy back some of
its retail fixed rate bonds CEN010 (2009 series) maturing 15 May 2014. There
are no minimum or maximum amounts.

These bonds will be purchased both over-the-counter and through the NZX. We
have appointed Craigs Investment Partners to bid on our behalf through the
NZDX.

The buy backs will be funded from existing cash balances (which, in part,
arise from debt issued to pre-fund redemption of these bonds) and available
bank facilities.
