No one suggested that they were going to wait 30yrs! Its how the majors plan. The write down of Ni and other mines is for tax reasons. Yes, some have gone into care and maintenance and again its what the majors do when the shine goes off the price. RTX/RIO would not be throwing cash into drilling if they thought the days of Ni in Oz were over. After all, its a "earn in" deal and they can walk away at any time.
