On a different note your question on day traders thread regarding opening closing auctions dont think anyone fully replied
The way price is matched is based on one main criteria
At what price match does the auction genrate maximum volume
If you look at you illustration and check with 42 42.5 and 43
42.5 generates max volume
Hence the opening price matc
