That story is quite pathetic. Thinking that an AI engine could produce 'woke' output without any specific instruction to do so is crazy.
I have used Gemini and it is an awesome tool and great fun. Expecting Gemini to know that some people would be offended if Gemini (or any other AI tool) generated a picture of a black pope or an asian pope shows little knowledge of AI. If the user wants a white pope then they write a more specific prompt such as 'give me a picture of a pope with european heritage'.
The tool needed no tinkering. The people at Google making that decision are fools. They just need a short education course on AI and its limitations.
