looking back at the PL3 annoucements, in some senses, they were testing the limits of the imec universal memory capabilities back then (pre-Dory platform?) Seems to be running into a similar issue again now with PL5 (hence the need for Infineon).
your chronology was a little out on the PL3 issue... 4DS had already acquired the testing equipment prior to receiving PL3 from imec.
The PL3 issue was mask etch fix from PL2 issues caused a secondary issue which meant the required write voltage exceeded the voltage that the imec megabit platform could provide... Upping the voltage after the initial failure, it cells performed as expected (couldn't see any stats shared). They cited it as an issue scaling to commercially relevant geometries - so absolutely could have been fatal.
stanford nano tech labs came in and helped solve the root cause and help direct the fixes for imec, leading to megabit success...
im glad I went and looked - im starting to see how Infineon is the path out of this, irrespective of the pending Capital Raise. That'll have to happen, it'll dilute and impact SP at that time, but the overall goal is still attainable and they're still on the path to get there
