The thing that gets me is, what exactly did they think was going to happen with this announcement? That every one was going to go:

Me: "Oh cool, yeah - you've told me nothing about what I was waiting to hear, except to imply that the stuff that didn't work right was good because it allowed you to fix PL6, but that was probably never going to work right 'cuz we need a new memory controller, oh , PL6 will be using the old controller too."

Them: "Oh and PL5 was a success 'cuz we found all this out. So now we have told ya nothing about the stuff we were able to measure last time, 'cuz that that a sekret and we haven't finished testing every tiny bit including you it works on a spaceship, and suggested something undefined needs to be improved on, and we introduced this new you-beaut definition of success that was always kinda there but never spelled out because, heh, we don't do establishing clear expectations ahead of time, can we have another $8m at a huge discount with a time bomb built into the raise just to guarantee that the SP has Buckley's chance of recovering afterwards? Oh, and while we're at it lets also suggest it will be 15 months and be vague as crap about how we are actually gonna use the design to build something, ('cuz we aren't gonna cost that in) before you see a cent of recovery, and just in case you got that, we'll do a talky-talky video thing to just a few people that implies 4 to 6 months and makes it even more confused. Oh and lets make sure we don't protect the CR with any underwriting. Yeah, that's the way to do it, Oh and last thing, cuz we didn't really have time to chat among ourselves about this, lets do one of those board meeting things after the announcement and the SP has tanked so the guys can all freak out and demand we pull the CR and just in case anyone thought we wuz vaguely competent at running a listed biz. Bloody good thing we got Ting cuz at least he knows what he is doin', cuz we sure-as-sh*t don't!. Next year we're thinkin' of helping him with the chip design thingy. Can't be that hard 'cuz we reckon we got this capital management lark down now."

The only thing rescuing this mess is the fact that the competing majors seem to have even less of a brain or one of them would just turn around now and snap the whole thing up for a song.
