Now wouldn't it be good (nay, amazing) if CCE published a peer-review validation of their assumptions and outputs of the technical and commercial evaluation to date?

You mean, in addition to the $100M or so that government has provided through grants with no published results. Now that CCE is one of five "winners" to go to the next ground...
"Can Australia afford to wait another 3-5 years before having other alternative renewable energy sources in the mix?" Well onshore and offshore wind is surging; hydrogen (I'm sceptical about liquified) is also ramping up, Snowy Hyrdo 2... plenty of far better validated technologies are coming on stream.
"Why not revisit Garden Island?" The site of a $60M prototype project that apparently did 12,000 operational hours and produced 14MWh of energy? Why not indeed?
