Hi,
Good news IMHO!
With my limited understanding, it appears that the metallurgical process consuming oxygen to oxidize sulfides will be an exothermic reaction, which may release a useful amount of heat. This heat may be used to generate electricity, or make fresh water (Alfa Laval water maker).
The oxygen will need to be generated onsite (much cheaper than transporting bottles of oxygen) by PSA oxygen concentrators that use air (free) which only require the input of electricity. The PSA oxygen generators can be hired on long term contract with a 100% tax deductible monthly payment. Getting copper and cobalt metals will probably done by electrowinning, with sulfuric acid produced as a byproduct.
I am not a metallurgist, so please feel free to set me straight if I am up the wrong tree barking!
Using oxygen as the reagent instead of cyanide, nitrates etc stacks up very well environmentally IMHO, and is a cost-effective alternative from a logistics point of view.
Is this a green project??? I think so.
