it's either a metaphorical "thank you" to shareholders, allowing us to buy more and support the company, and also get the oppies as a sweetener (if SS expects the company to be worth materially more in the near term, it could be seen to be looking after shareholders)
On the flipside, if the market behaves irrationally and punishes the SP in the near term, well.. it might end up being pointless.
Each to their own, I'm sitting in the maybe pile for now.
