Also the cgt losses can be carried forward indefinitely. If you thought CBA is overvalued and worthwhile unloading some and you had other shares where you may be facing cgt on any disposal and hesitant to do it for that reason then this buyback could provide a beneficial one off opportunity for a bit of cgt free portfolio rationalisation.
