I am sure this buyback structure works well for sophisticated investors, but I do worry that understanding it's complexities may be a step too far for the many (many) less financially savvy holders. We're talking about a company that used to be a public utility - there are more mum and dad (and indeed, grandma and grandpa) long term investors on this registry than any other.
