Typically the engineers don't take care of contract terms and insurance, the procurement teams take care of that, but thats a side note. Of course there would be terms checked prior to placement of contracts, but if the cause and responsibility of failure is not clear, ie does a RCA identify potential causes of failure rather than one obvious cause, then good luck getting someone to take responsibility quickly. Lawyers live off grey areas.
I hope it is clear, and it is resolved quickly. The story is great, but hope doesn't pay the bills. The share price has dropped 15-20% on the news. IMO only the risk over the next yr has grown far more substantially since news of this failure has been released.
