The sale or partnership is a clear timeline event where ones performance is measured.

Not going to look good on the CV if it says I managed and invested shareholders funds of $47M and returned them $5M.

An exit strategy to stop losses? Or is this to crystalise the value in developed IP?

Surely but surely if this isn't a sale in desperation? Surely you would be putting that spin on the announcement.
