Yes, there are kidney function tests that can be performed. However, 2 things. That's not always possible in an emergency so you should assume the patient does have compromised kidneys in that situation and use DyeVert. Secondly, just because a kidney test shows there is no present sign of kidney compromise, that doesn't mean the extra dye currently used doesn't do any damage and that damage is not cumulative. In short, DyeVert should become the gold standard for all patients, regardless of kidney status.
