As the implanted brain tissue is behind an algal membrane there will be an equilibrium constant for the diffusion of oxygen transport across the membrane and into the implant. It is more likely that an increase of the pellets implanted decreases the available oxygen spread across the pellets implant area, leading to retardation of tissue function and possible cell death.
