    I'll be more specific. There are a number of implant methods. It helps to know that the target tissue, the putamen is a small sausage lying longitudinally in the brain somewhere near the ears. Now if you spear it from the top (a vertex approach) with a needle and inject tomato sauce, all the sauce ends up in one small area unless you make multiple injections or "needle passes". On the hand if you spear it from the end with a frontal approach and inject your sauce as you pull the needle out, all the sauce gets distributed down the long axis of the sausage. There are advocates of lateral approaches as well, but the frontal approach has been used in the more successful trials in the past.

    AFAIK the neurosurgeon assisting LCT in the trial has been using a vertx approach from the top of the head. This may not be the best technique here, but its often not easy to tell a neurosurgeon maybe they need to try and do it differently.
