I suspect that big block trade today of 15M shares might be Van Eck and their cronies positioning for WAF being added to the index. If it is added then Van Eck will need to buy somewhere near 40M shares.

Typically stocks in line for addition to the GDX start to move a week or two before the measurement date (kind of creating a self-fulfilling achievement of the required market cap).
