They are shorting the SP, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon stated that he is willing to spend whatever it takes to battle BNPL. They may believe that the amount they are loosing in the shorts, would be considerably less if BNPL gets a foothold in the market. Shorting Z1p reduces confidence, and makes it harder for them to raise capital.
