Christos its a writedown under the application of GAAP and the Accounting Standards. This leads to an accounting loss, its not a loss from the underlying business units.
That's why analysts look at underlying profit.
Next such writedowns reduce the intangibles/goodwill. This leads to future reduced D&A expense which is a part function of the amount of Intangibles/good will on the balance sheet.
