Maybe but very hard to know for sure. Remember shorts are demand loans for the stock. When companies like JPM or SS think there is a good chance of stock dropping more than the fees they are collecting. they will call the loans. This results in a short squeeze but it only last for a day or two because they will sell the stock quickly after they get it. These companies are not driven to help people make money on shorts. They are driven by the large fees they receive for loaning shorts with almost no risk since they are on both the up and down side.
This is why I stopped shorting in 2000. I now only do puts. Lower gains but you have much more control. Far less money at risk.
