The thing is, if one of these companies are opening / closing positions, it does not indicate shorting or closure of short positions, as some claim, because shorting is based on loaning shares, not buying and selling. These businesses could simply be taking profits on shares they've purchased. We have no idea whether those positions held are even available for loaning. The assumption it's related to shorting is a big one.
