It's interesting that there now seems to be a consensus view that the antibody tests don't detect someone who has the virus, only someone who had it in the past. i don't think that is quite accurate. if you have an antibody test when you are in the middle of the disease and have symptoms etc, the antibody test will probably pick that up. The antibody tests are less likely to detect the disease in the earlier stages, because insufficient antibodies have been formed. But the tests ARE capable of picking up people who still have the disease and are still contagious.
it may be that the antibody tests are best used to pick up people who have had the disease in the past, but that is not the only thing they can do.
