On the you tube channel Commodity Culture there is a recent video on Phosphate. The guy being interviewed is an investor talking about a phosphate deposit in Canada that is one of the very few (1% he said) that is suitable for making the highest grade of Phosphoric acid for food and pharma use. To make this product you have to start with a very high grade low impurity phosphate.
This phosphoric acid is about 3.5 x the value of standard industrial phosphoric acid. I think it was USD 3500 per Mt approx vs 1000 USD for standard grade. I guess this evaluation work being undertaken here is to see if the low impurity Centrex phosphate is one of the rare ones, that is suitable for high value applications. I suspect also that the company doing this evaluation, who have a number of phosphoric acid plants would be very interested if it was good enough.
