I'm not a big fan of BNPL, I think its just one big loophole to push credit and upon total saturation will increase costs for merchants significantly. (If you annualise the merchants fees of APT its very, very high interest rates.) This is despite the arguments from the likes of APT they push all this new business to merchants at the moment. You could use similar arguments for credit card products and yet they are under quite strict regulation now. Gone of the days people found pre approved CCs in the mail. Good luck to CCP anyhow, and like you say I don't they'll take much of a risk.
