Bapcor chairman has been down a CEO before
While it is undeniably the job of any corporate board to pick the CEO, relatively few find themselves unexpectedly lacking one in the process. Luckily for Bapcor shareholders, chairman Margaret Haseltine – who this weeksent veteran chief Darryl Abotomey immediately packing – has seen something like this before.From 2013 to its 2016 sale to South African retail conglomerate Steinhoff, she was deputy chairman and headed up the remuneration committee at Fantastic Furniture.In early 2016, both Fantastic’s CEO, Stephen Heath, and CFO George Saoud mysteriously resigned within four days of each other. The company thanked them for their service but gave investors no reason at all for the resignations.
