Throughout many West African countries there are Artisinal workers who mine the ground illegally (but are often difficult to control).
There are thousands - possible hundreds of thousands of artisinal workers who are often well organised and armed. The army has been brought in - in the past but at night-time they come back and dig down to as deep as 20 metres so effectively steal gold near surface. (Fortunately most of Bassari's gold, and highest grade gold is deeper)
As you would have seen in the recent announcement a solution has been put in place to provide the artisinal workers ground to mine outside of Bassari's exploitation licence - thus allowing Bassari unimpeded operational activity.

This for me is a huge bonus that takes away a serious risk that would be present otherwise.
