To my simple way of thinking it is the same pie with more slices with a quarter removed as a different name. The cost base is the cost to me in purchasing my original holding what they are worth now is immaterial to calculating the cost base.

Thanks in advance. I think I have oversimplified matters and I"m happy to be corrected.

im quite sure the spun off shares will have the same start date for cgt purposes as the original chn shares
