    Brickworks will always have a role in Australia but their potential for overseas expansion I see as almost an impossibility, where these industries are entrenched in their respective markets. Because it takes a lot of infrastructure to set up a new brick facility, and you need a lot of facilities or excellent infrastructure (incl quarries) to be able to serve large markets.

    i also don't see internationally produced bricks as a risk for BKW because of shipping costs of such materials. Transport would always make a significant portion of the end construction cost.

    But there is certainly potential to displace other building materials e.g. steel and timber domestically. Brick is undoubtedly the superior material and this is the first decent breakthrough in 7000 years for the humble brick (I mean that half jokingly half serious)

    it would certainly make sense for BKW to want to shore up their stakes for Australia.
