of course it is. It should be a key consideration in every share transaction. Although the amount to pay will depend on personal circumstances and I doubt anyone will be paying 50% of the profit in capital gains. In your example of 100k profit, my CGT would be about $23k given i am on the top margin rate and the long term discount. Any tax would not be payable for another year.
