The Children's investment fund is not going to takeover IFN. They are an activist fund manager. Their MO is to acquire substantial stakes and then push for some value increasing corporate action, such as a breakup, or to facilitate a third party takeover. They led the breakup of ABN Amro, and the takeover of Arcelor by Mittal.
In IFN, they could push for a sale of the US assets which would pave the way for a takeover by one of the australian listed generators. But they may be happy to sit it out for a while hoping for the us energy market to recover.
This is a pretty small play for them.
