What's so crazy about that? If you've got money spare sitting in a deposit account, then why not? either your money is backed by a gold mine or someone else's ability to pay off their home loan. Given that in Spain, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Ireland, etc. people are struggling to pay off their loans, and hence their banks cannot pay off their depositors, then it's pretty obvious what the safer option is.
