This is one of the reasons shorting should be banned outright. Mums and dads robbed blind with the regulators seeing nothing wrong with it.

When I held Myer last year I can even remember commenting about one of the reasons I was happy with the investment was that GS were BUYERS, going above 5%. The forms are not even clear that they were SHORT 5%, and I would bet money deliberately.

I've been lucky with Myer trading it a couple of times and making some good coin on a couple of those retracements, so I feel very sorry for all of those stuck at this low price.

There is one way out of the mess, but I'm fairly sure no Australian institution is prepared to do it. That being take GS on and BUY millions of shares on market to raise the SP above $1 AND recall all outstanding borrowed shorts (though they are probably tied up in a binding contract), and put the word around to others to call in their shares.
In fact if everyone reading this got on the phone to their super fund and told their friends to do the same about recalling MYER shares from borrowers, because of the destruction of value happening, we might, just might get somewhere. But it would take tens of thousands of phone calls of angry people demanding to speak to people in authority (investment managers, ceo's etc) to do it.
Anyone willing??
