That seems to be a fundamental problem with the way super fund managers operate.
As long as they achieve 'acceptable' returns (ie around benchmark) over the year, they are satisfied that nobody is going to take them to task. So why not make some easy money renting shares out to shorters?
The whole industry needs a shake up in my view.
