    Blackrock didn’t buy shares to lend out to shorters. It’s a fund manager buying on behalf of clients. This isn’t its index funds either, since it’s a large 1% increase, it’s part of its active funds.

    Most large fund managers do securities lending, simply to generate extra fees. I personally see it as a conflict of interest given they are a long fund on behalf of its members, not sure how a trustee can justify signing off on something counter productive to their financial interest. But anyway, those definitions always stretched and never looked at.
