As you say, he has layed out a significant sum of money. With so much at stake, maybe he too is impatient with progress and wants to provide some leverage for change to the accountants running the shop. Not sure of what his average cost is but at some point, if management can actually deliver materially increasing revenue, then the investment will be worth while.
Somewhere in the past, I seem to recall someone saying that he had personal connection with one of the 'in crowd'. One would have to have some insights as to the real potential if only they can make it all happen. Most other shareholders are not provided insights as to the potential and timing of the growth of the business. (I am not saying profit sensitive information, just insights about the potential).
