I was thinking about market participant's behaviour after this announcement last night...
By being 'smaller' shareholders relative to the larger institutions, we are able to make different decisions as we invest to generate returns/preserve capital for ourselves only, rather than for billions of dollars of client's wealth. This should work to our advantage because in theory it enables us little players to purchase stocks that have fallen or been sold off due to the market's irrationality in times of peak pessimism.
But then, after one has taken their position and the stock price continues to fall or moves sideways, investors get nervous and wonder if their contrarian purchase was the wrong action to take.
We then look for buying indicators from the larger players (whom we have the advantage over) like your Brett Blundys, Aus Supers, and asset managers, in order to feel that sense of comfort as a backing to our decision.
Exhibit A:. Share price comes off from 75c to 52c over past week or so and sub. holder 'Pinnacle' increases their stake to >6% and the share price takes off again!!!.
