Interesting news from Newmont today .Pretty much as I predicted .2024 is going to be a year of consolidating the acquisition of Newcrest .They are primarily going to focus on their in-house tier one deposits (ie zero chance of a takeover of DEG) .They are getting rid of assets including 6 smaller Canadian projects and two Australian projects (Haverion is one of them ).Took a 2.5 billion write off from the takeover .The news release can easily be accessed online for its detail and verification.Pretty obvious not withstanding all the takeover speculation which is rubbish due to cost that no top 10 worldwide gold producer will takeout DEG.
DEG/Gold road will have to go it alone ,also obvious another capital raise is coming as they are burning through cash and have a lot of commitment's peripheral to their main task of building a huge plant whose cost goes up every day .Blackrock is an investment company and not a miner it manages etfs ,so its just a passive investment ,not the same as a major miner taking a position. I was hoping that deg,s superb geological team would transform NVO but to date nothing much of significance has been found .NVO stock is languishing as so many explorers are in a major bear market.Some day their will be renaissance ,the question is when .The huge deflationary event in China continues and likely will for many years .The deflationary event in Japan has lasted 34 years ,the Japanese stock market has just about recovered its losses .Thats a long time to wait,I read that one Japanese broker had hung on without selling for 34 years .Just amazing.
