So if State street have in fact lent those shares out,
Then they are in fact not the ones shorting them
They are the lenders
The ones who have borrowed those shares from state street are the shorters
This is why State Street make the following statement -
"State Street Bank and Trust
Company has lent the securities and
retains a relevant interest "
