Turnbull was pre-ScoMo AUKUS sellout, and remains a carbon demoniser and not a supporter of nuclear energy. Besides, he laced spine and thats why he got rolled - if he had truly been the Gough Whitlam of the Liberals, he would have crashed through and lived up to his hype - he didn't, instead he became the "Kevin'07" of the coalition, a perpetual whinger and historical apologist - sad but there you have it.
Whatever STO did in the past must be seen with a long lens - trying to create long term relationships, particularly in Asia is paramount. The pressure on Australian energy companies has never been greater, and no one anticipated COVID, lockdowns and crazy energy prices etc etc.
Should energy pay more tax - of course they should - one of the most potent arguments against gas companies is how little tax they pay - if they paid a lot more, like international energy companies pay Norway, then these arguments would hold no water and they would be valued for there contribution to the economy and the national purse.
Norways SWF is worth more than Australia's foreign debt .... why is a country so endowed like Australia have such foreign debt and so mush foreign ownership of natural resources and real estate and agricultural land ???????
This would not be tolerated in Singapore which has way less debt and owns way more of Australia than vice versa.
The IOUSA is by far the largest investor and owner of Aussie assets (more than50%) (China only 15%) whiel China is 40% of all trade, while the IOUSA is 15% ?? ....
