Just been having a look at the FIL website. They look like very thorough investors. E.g. this is under their Australian Equities Fund page. I doubt they would be buying if they had not spoken to some surgeons too.
I wonder if the shorters also spoke to any surgeons (I'm guessing they didn't) or just heard about the board/management issues and realised with a bit of bad news it would be easy to drive the price down by dumping millions of shares.
