The best gains are made when you do the opposite of what the market is doing. Buying good businesses when the market is selling them on good fundamentals and selling them when the market is buying grossly overvalued companies. Its hard to control your emotions as you are doing the opposite of what seems natural, but if you master your emotions you will be a better investor reaping better returns.
