There is No reason an auditor the size of EY couldn't act for two companies party to a contract.
They simply establish probity protocols and play on.
Very common for these businesses.
Perhaps not in the case of a law firm (@Fact Finder is a lawyer and may be able to clarify my assumption there) but certainly doable for an accounting firm.
