Let's assume for the sake of discussion that that's correct and the writing was on wall, why would an ASTUTE operator like James jump on board a sinking ship without doing some due diligence prior to signing up? Perhaps there was recognition of the opportunity at hand and so he stuck around?
Regardless of any assumptions they can't be flogging the new team theme when James was part of the previous mob. Not a good look really, they may consider amending some of the market presentations eh? Or at the very least give up on that as a marketing tool as if I'm not mistaken that is misleading.
