The 2D they already had was old stuff and would probably have been permafrost NON-corrected. Its a known fact that permafrost can effect the seismic resolution by mucking with the frequency waves as it passes through the hard permafrost layer. It would also not have been applicable to all their specific acreage as will be the new 2D 88E/Bex have just acquired.

The 3D is Ice 1/2H sweetspot specific and is APPARENTLY to derisk Ice 2H drilling, particularly the horizontal lateral. However it can also be used to define the size/volume of the sweetspot they might be dealing with at Ice 1/2H, of paramount importance when it comes to any farm in/out deal they might be contemplating. This is done with a specific form of analysis which combines the 2D/3D seismics.

Don't know that the seismic acquisition company would have done the stacking analysis required to analyse the sweetspot size. Probably just handed over the raw 3D data with possibly SOME processed to give an idea of quality acquired.
