You are 100% correct fullmetal.
The old-timers left a lot of high-grade gold in the ground, both at depth and along strike at Alexander River, Big River, and Lyell. (see below). You can see Blackwater is at 1,900metres and open at depth with the underground mine continuing past 2,500metres.
