I doubt the directors sold. If they did that is like committing a crime, videotaping yourself committing it, and then handing it over to the police without them asking for it.
If they have sold and this whole thing is a scam, their careers are over, and the risk of jail time is extremely high. Don't think they would do that. It's just not worth it.
