Not really, Richard's awards are:
- Commendation, Medical Futures Innovation Awards, 2011
- Faculty Excellence Award, University of Houston College of Pharmacy, 2000 and 1995.
- Established Investigator’s Award, American Heart Association, 1999.
- Named one of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics by Hispanic Business magazine, 1997.
- One of University of Houston College of Pharmacy’s 50 Outstanding Alumni celebrating the College's 50th Anniversary, 1997.
- Teaching Award from Council of Campus Leaders, University of Houston, 1995
I'm sure Richard is a good scientist and I'm, glad NIH funds his research but remember that NIH funding does not validate anything, it's research, you're testing a hypothesis. Sometimes results indicate you're on the right track, sometimes it turns out to be rubbish despite early promising results. The mice results shown are nice, but as you said, it's in mice. That may give you a lot of confidence, I believe it's too early for confidence, but it does indicate some potential. Furthermore, histology pictures of a tiny fraction of the lung are not the best proof. The scientists select which pictures they take and show to the public. You're assuming what was shown is similar to the overall picture in the lungs. I can almost guarantee that what is shown is the best set of the pictures, the best result, not just a random selected set of pictures. I'd encourage you to be a bit more critical.
Having said that, there is enough promise for me to keep my shares, but I'm still not expecting anything in $$ return at this point. It's still pure speculation Nadolol can be developed into a successful drug for repair lungs but would sure be nice.
