I believe you will find that with regard to SMSF - there is a requirement that whenever a SMSF purchases as an asset from a trustee or beneficiary, you need to prove mutual benefit ( or no disadvantedge to either party) . Transferring on market is the easiest and clearest way to meet audit requirements.
Pretty sure the transaction does not contravene any directors share trading restrictions
